Driver Requirements
A little more about Harris Hire, a leading van hire company in Essex
To hire a van you must be aged 23 and over. If you are under 25 you will need to contact the office, as surcharges will apply.

For 8 to 15 seaters you must be aged 25 years and over. Held full licence for over 2 years.
If you want to drive a 7,500kg GVW vehicle on an ordinary licence, you must also have passed your test before January 1997 and be a minimum of 25 years of age.

REQUIREMENT ONE
BEFORE YOU HIRE
Before your hire date the Harris Hire team will need three things:
1) The last 8 Digits of your driving licence.
2) Full Address & Postcode.
3) Your unique 8 digit license code

REQUIREMENT TWO
ON THE DAY
If you can send over all of your paperwork prior to your arrival it will allow us to set up your documentation to streamline your handover. Most documents are held online so you download them and email them to us! When collecting your vehicle, please remember the following has been provided in order to ensure there is no delay in completing your handover:

DRIVING LICENCE
Held for a minimum of 24 Months

​TWO FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION
These are in addition to your driving licence & must be dated within 3 months of your last day of hire. Acceptable documents are Bank or Credit card statements, utility bills, payslips to name a few. Here are examples of acceptable proof of address. We understand that most people do not receive hard copy documents through the post, so you will need to download digital copies & email them across to us. If you do not have a photocard licence, we would need photographic ID to support your driving licence such as a valid Passport.

CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD
A £200.00 damage deposit will be pre-authorised on your Credit or Debit card when the vehicle is collected. This is £400.00 for our Splitter / Crew vans.

This will NOT be taken from your account by us but will be put on hold by your bank & will show as a pending payment. It will take a minimum of 7 days to be released & available to spend again.

REQUIREMENT THREE
RETURNING THE VEHICLE
When returning your vehicle, please remember the following:

FUEL
Please make sure any fuel used is replaced.

All vehicles run on DIESEL fuel ONLY.
​
​DAMAGE
​
Sometimes little scrapes and bumps happen, but please make sure any damage is reported on return.

KEYS
Please return keys to the office or if out of hours in the dropbox provided.
